Video Editing Workstations — 4K, 6K, 8K Timelines Without Waiting
MSFREEZ configures editing rigs for Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve Studio, After Effects, and Final Cut migrations. Timeline scrubbing, colour grading, and export speed — measured on your actual footage, not a benchmark.
What you get
- 4K H.265 timelines: RTX 5070 Ti + i7/Ryzen 7, 64 GB DDR5
- 6K/8K RAW (BRAW, RED, ProRes RAW): RTX 5080/5090, 128 GB DDR5
- Resolve colour node stacking: dual-GPU option
- PCIe 5.0 NVMe scratch (7 GB/s) for cached previews
- 10-bit HDMI 2.1 / DP 2.1 for HDR reference monitors
Codec-aware hardware choices
H.264 / H.265 timelines are GPU-decoder bound — RTX 40/50 NVENC/NVDEC handles multi-stream 4K without proxies. ProRes / DNxHR / BRAW are CPU-bound — you want Ryzen 9 / Core Ultra 9 threads. We pick components based on what codec your camera actually shoots.
DaVinci Resolve — GPU is king
Resolve Studio scales linearly with GPU compute and VRAM. Every added node (temporal noise reduction, magic mask, super scale) hits the GPU. RTX 5080 handles 4K grade with 30+ nodes; RTX 5090 or dual-GPU is required for 8K + Fusion comps.
Storage tiers that keep timelines smooth
OS + apps on PCIe 5.0 NVMe. Active project cache on second PCIe 4.0/5.0 NVMe (2–4 TB). Long-term project archive on SATA SSD or NAS via 10 GbE. Never edit off a single drive.
Colour-accurate output paths
10-bit HDMI 2.1 to your grading monitor (ASUS ProArt, EIZO CG, Apple Pro Display XDR). We validate the signal chain end-to-end — no banding, no colour shift, no HDR metadata drops.
FAQ
Mac migration — will Premiere/Resolve feel the same?
Yes, and often faster. A properly-spec'd Windows rig with RTX 5080 outperforms M4 Max on H.265 timelines and Resolve node graphs, at similar price.
Do I need ECC RAM?
For pure editing, no. For long overnight ProRes RAW exports on 8K, ECC on Threadripper is a nice-to-have. Consumer DDR5 with XMP is fine for 99% of editors.
Can you build a portable editing tower?
Yes — SFF (small form factor) builds with SFX PSU + 240mm AIO for editors who travel between offices or on-set.
